Joint press-conference of NGOs about unfair dismissal of patrol inspector from job

September 17, 2014

On September 18th, at 11:00 pm, in the conference hall of Human Rights House Tbilisi, NGOs – Human Rights Center, Article 42 of Constitution, Transparency International Georgia and Public Advocacy will hold a press conference regarding illegal firing of patrol policeman, Joseb Abuladze.

Joseb Abuladze was fired today. However, he has not yet received the order regarding the firing.

Joseb Abuladze has been working for the bodies of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for several years. He is experienced and conscientious policeman. The MIA has numerous times recognized and rewarded him for his good work.

Joseb Abuladze’s firing is related to the incident which took place on June 19th when he was fulfilling his work duties at the Metekhi Bridge at night. Particularly, the road was closed due to traffic reasons while the policemen were watching and keeping the order. At this moment, someone with BMW car tried to trespass the roadblock without permission. The driver was rude to the policeman Abuladze who prohibited him to trespass the roadblock and therefore was reprimanded by the policeman. This driver turned out to be a friend of the head of First Agency of Disciplinary Prosecution of General Inspection of MIA, Erekle Chokhonelidze who was dining in Shardeni St. in the same restaurant where the driver was going. Chokhonelidze summoned Joseb Abuladze in several days and demanded him to write the written explanation of the incident and severely reprimanded him.

Joseb Abuladze addressed Ombudsman of Georgia regarding the violation of his labor right. The Office of Ombudsman started to study the case. After this fact, the pressure against the policeman intensified. On September 17th he was summoned to MIA and was told that he was fired.

Human Rights Center, Article 42 of Constitution, Transparency International Georgia and Public Ombudsman address the Office of Prosecutor to objectively investigate the unlawful actions of the MIA high official, Erekle Chokhonelidze, to study the case of Joseb Abuladze’s firing and timely react to the pressure and persecution that he experiences.

NGOs address the MIA to study this case, revoke the order of Joseb Abuladze’s firing and restore him to his job.
