On December 10, on the World Day of Human Rights, photo-exhibition Women for Human Rights was organized in the conference hall of the Human Rights House Tbilisi. Photos from the 2014 photo-competition for women human rights defenders were exhibited in the HRHT. The photos reflect activities of the women human rights defenders. Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili also attended the photo-competition and addressed to the audience and underlined the significant role of women in the field of human rights.

15 women human rights defenders from different countries and 12 photographers participated in the competition. Photographer Daro Sulakauri won the competition with the photo of Georgian human rights defender Lela Tsiskarishvili, member of Human Rights House Tbilisi.

Nino Elbakidze, Human Rights House Tbilisi Board Chairperson, opened the exhebition: “We symbolically dedicate the photo exhibition to the World Human Rights Day, because we think the role of women must be reinforced in the society, in political and public life. The aim of the today’s exhibition is to remind the society that women play the significant role in the human rights field.”

Public defender said it is important that not only women fought for the women’s rights, but also men: “There are serious problems in the protection of women's rights. According to our information, this year, 26 women were killed. In fact, the state could not protect lives of women in many places. Unfortunately, this tendency continues and the problem has large scales.”

Regional Coordinator of the Human Rights House Tbilisi Keti Abashidze said the women participating in the exhibition are members of the Human Rights House Network. As for the Human Rights House Network, it is an international initiative that brings together around 70 NGOs from 15 countries. She said the idea of the exhibition was born in Georgia and then other member countries also joined it.
