On March 17, 2011 car crash damaged the high voltage line in Akhasheni village, Gurjaani district and electricity transformer went wrong. The incident damaged the village population.

The witnesses say the incident occurred at 14:00 pm on March 17, 2011 – KAMAZ with state number RAB 939 crashed the electricity tower and locals heard explosion. Electricity meters of 18 families in Javakhiaant district blew up and electricity wires installed in the walls were burnt. The switched on electricity devices went wrong either: local car service, restaurant and wood workshop were damaged. A fire started in the house of Arevadzes, located three hundred meters away from the car-incident scene. The transmitter exploded and entire village stayed without electricity supply during one month.

The witnesses said the driver disappeared from the scene of incident. Representatives of the Gurjaani district administration, JSC Kakheti Energo-Distribution Company and patrol police officers arrived at the place; they promised the victimized people to help however nobody has appeared in the village since then. The Akhasheni population collected the money and repaired the transmitter with their resources.

“Entire Georgia learned about our problem. Brigades of energo-distribution workers arrived from Rustavi and Telavi and repaired the high-voltage line. On that day, everybody promised to help but forgot about us from the very next day; even the energo-distribution company, who had to request punishment of the driver and assist us. We all took loans at the banks and changed the electricity wires in our houses; bought electric devices, which were burnt during the incident,” local victimized resident Lali Datunashvili said.

Giorgi Arevadze has been applying to different institutions to estimate the truth and get compensation for the damage. He said his damage reached more than 15 000 lari but he requested reimbursement of only small part of it – 5 000 lari. Nevertheless, nobody paid the requested amount to them yet.

Giorgi Arevadze’s mother Nunu Arevadze asked Minister of Energy Kakhi Kaladze for help, who arrived in Akhasheni village to switch on the natural gas supply.

“Kaladze arrived in Akhasheni to switch on gas supply here; I gave a letter to him; he promised to discuss our case and inform me about the decision. Unfortunately, nobody paid attention to our problem. Because of the nervous stress, my husband got diabetic. I was insulted several times when I tried to restore the justice; now I have heart problems,” Nunu Arevadze said.

Gurjaani district court started investigation into the fact on January 28, 2013 based on the application of Nunu Arevadze; however prosecutor Tinatin Zubashvili dropped the investigation against the driver of the KAMAZ based on the October 25, 2013 Resolution because of absence of criminal signs in it. Case of Arevadzes was forwarded to the Tbilisi City Court.

Population of Akhasheni village said they were deceived and requests reimbursement of the damage.
