Karaleti IDP Settlement Will Receive Status of Territorial Entity

February 26, 2015

There are 480 cottages and 1700 residents in Karaleti IDP settlement. After the IDPs had the spaces registered, the numeration of the cottages changed but they have old numbers in the data base of the Subsidy Agency. The IDPs request to give names to the streets and numbers to their cottages in order to avoid possible misunderstandings and technical problems in future. They said the social agent uses the aforementioned data base when they study the applications of the families.

The issue is that as a result of self-governmental reform in 2014 Gori district administration was divided into two and the city hall was created. When estimating the territories, the commission assigned the Karaleti IDP settlement to the City Hall. Representatives of the City Hall clarify that the settlement will receive status of the territorial entity and it will be moved from Karaleti village into the city. Consequently, one of the representatives of the Gori City Mayor will be appointed in Tsmindatskali IDP settlement.

The numbers written on 480 cottages six years ago are not readable now. The trace of numeration was smashed during years; the constructions in the cottages erased part of them. Nobody knows about the government’s decision in the Karaleti IDP sentiment. They say nobody has asked their opinion about it and nor they were informed about the initiative.

“The numeration was changed. After registration they gave new numbers to us. However, the old numbers remained in the data base of the social service that creates misunderstanding,” IDP from Kekhvi village Nana Jalabadze said.

“When we call ambulance, they need half an hour to reach the place because the streets are not named in the settlement. If we now belong to the city, then the streets must be numbered,” IDP Givi Gochashvili said.

The IDPs request the City Hall to timely resolve the problem.
