The locals of Mtskheta municipality ask for help from the Government

August 4, 2015

From February 15 to June 15, the representatives of Human Rights Center have been monitoring the city council meetings of Mtskheta municipality. They have interviewed the locals of Mukhatgverdi using special questionnaires. According to the survey results, the village has problems of gasification and water. In addition, there are no kindergarten and school in the village and because of this, the locals have to take their children to study in other villages of the municipality or to city Mtskheta.

During the survey, the human rights defenders met one of the locals, Mariam Piruzashvili, who cannot afford to repair damaged house because of heavy social-economical situation and has to live in the environment, which is dangerous for life. As Mariam Piruzashvili told to the representatives of Human Rights Center, the roof is damaged and because of that, the both floors of the house are wet and the walls might collapse. Piruzashvili repeatedly addressed the administrative body for help but to no avail.

In order to examine the problem of Mariam Piruzashvili, Human Rights Center contacted the administrative body of Mtskheta municipality. According to the official response of the governor Zurab Abesadze, there are no funds allocated in 2015 municipality budget to provide the locals with building materials. The administrative body has examined and put the house in the list of damaged residents.

“When Mkstheta municipality gets sufficient funds for rehabilitation of damaged houses, it will distribute the materials and Mariam Piruzashvili will be informed by the representative of the administrative unit,”-reads the official letter of Zurab Abesadze.

Human Rights Center continues to have an official communication with the city assembly and board of Mtskheta municipality, keeps requesting public information from them and examining it.
