On December 4, there was noise during the session of the Gori City Council when they discussed the issue of assigning territory to the Ltd Geo Distribution Group directly based on the lease contract. The Ltd takes responsibility to take care of the underground passage in exchange of the allocated space to place trading booth in the city center. The Geo Distribution Company sells hen thighs.
“Nobody should perceive that I am against development of the enterprise but I do not think placement of trading booths in the city center is reasonable idea. If we give permission to one company, we will not be able to refuse others,” city council member Mindia Goderdzishvili said.
Chairman of the property management commission of the city council Zaza Mezvrishvili supports the proposal of the Geo Distribution Group about the improvement of the conditions in the underground passage.
City council member Leri Lapachi is against the initiative.
“It is a pity to have such a weak mayor in the city who cannot take care of the underground passages and imposes this responsibility over the company who requests space for the trading booth in exchange of this service. You know that booths damage the city that is inadmissible for me,” Leri Lapachi said.
Advisor to the city mayor Shalva Tlashadze said if 15 sq. meter of the land is assigned to the company, they will pay 103 lari to the local budget every month.
“It has always been problem to take care of this underground passage but it does not mean that the company received the permission only in exchange of this service. It was one of the conditions but not main factor. The leased territory is a space of 15 sq. meters and its lease price is 103 lari per month. It will not be a booth but a trading object standing on a special platform,” Shalva Tlashadze said.
During the session, two council members – Tamar Tedliashvili from Free Democrats and Zurab Rosebashvili from the Burjanadze United Opposition did not participate in the ballot. Members of the United National Movement and Georgian Party voted against the issue. Six members of the Georgian Dream and one member from the Labor Party voted for the proposal and Georgian Distribution Group received 15 sq. meter territory in the city center based on the five-year lease contract to place trading object in it.
