General Inspection of the MIA Studies Case of Gori Police Officers

December 9, 2015

Lado Bitchashvili, Shida Kartli

On November 29, police officers arrested four young men in Gori center. One of the detainees was son of Tamar Tedliashvili, member of the city council. Tedliashvili claims during the detention the officers of the criminal police verbally and physically assaulted the boys; the harassment continued in the police office too.

The detainees were interrogated in the police till 2 am that night. Finally all of them were released. The young men lodged complaint to the General Inspection of the MIA against the police officers. They also petitioned to the Public Defender of Georgia. Tamar Tedliashvili hopes the GI will impartially study the case and punish the police officers for the abuse of power.

MIA press-center states the GI started investigation based on the complaint.
