On May 12, a car of Aleksandre Goglidze, former head of the Special Operation Department at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and currently member of the United National Movement, was burnt in Gori. As representative of the UNM stated during the press-conference, presumably it was a political revenge.

“We call on the law enforcement bodies to timely investigate this vandal fact. It was another attempt to intimidate us because Aleksandre Goglidze was considered to be a majoritarian candidate in one of the districts. We believe it is real motive of this incident,” chairman of the local UNM office Badri Basishvili said.

UNM Gori office representatives do not hope the investigation will be impartial. Basishvili said the cases of other burnt cars of their members and raid of their local office are still unresolved.

According to the press-center of the MIA, the investigation was launched under Article 187 Part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia that applies to the premeditated damage of other’s property. Currently, the expertise is conducted to estimate reasons of the fire.
