“On the edge of solitude” – Screening of the film

On May 20, Georgian-Ossetian Relations Scientific Research Center screened a documentary film “On the edge of solitude” in the conference hall of the Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University. The film tells stories of people living on both sides of the occupation line.

The film author Naira Bepieva said none of the characters in the film complained about “the other side.” They just recalled old time, when they lived in peace together. Many of them live alone in the abandoned villages and do not get any income at all.

“The idea of the film is that all sides are victimized by the war. People should think about it. We see that neither party of this conflict is happy with it, none of us is winner,” Naira Bepieva said at the presentation.

Representatives of NGOs, students and other invited guests attended the presentation. Teachers from South Ossetia, who go through professional training courses in Tbilisi, also attended the screening of the film. The Ivane Javakhishvili State University and the President’s Foundation funded their participation in the courses.

“It is very difficult to watch similar films. We went through the tragedy of the armed conflict together. We had obtruded conflicts in the Caucasus. That’s why there are no winners in our conflicts. Watching the film I recalled my past. Ms. Naira is doing much good and I wish her success in her work,” representative of the State Ministry for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Meka Khangoshvili said.

Coordinator of the Working Group 4 of the EaP Civil Society Forum National Platform Nukri Kvelashvili said the film is particular because it presents human tragedy caused by the war.

Naira Bepieva thanked to the video-crew, who worked on the film without honorarium (director Nino Popiashvili, cameraman Davit Simonishvili, editor – Kakha Andguladze). The film was produced without funding.
