On June 7, as a result of intensive rain in Gori, part of roads and pavements got flooded.
“During the rain I hid from the rain in the underground passage, but the torrent flew into the passage. People were scared and rescue team arrived on the place timely,” local Pavle Tlashadze said.

Heavy rain created problems in Verkhvebi IDP settlement, where drainage system was installed several months ago. The rain caused problems in the building of the Shida Kartli regional administration – namely in the office of the Gori City Council, where rain water leaked into the office. Equipment and documents were timely removed from the area. Later, in the evening, a ceiling collapsed in one of the rooms of the City Council Office. The Council chairman Ilia Metreveli said the roof of the building was repaired three years ago.

“We repaired the roof three years ago and the rain should not have leaked into it. It is fact that the repair works were done in poor quality and I am going to announce the name of the company, which implemented the repair works,” the Council chairman said.

The situation is getting controlled in the city – the City Mayor Zurab Jirkvelishvili said in the evening of June 7. He thanked to the rescue team and employees of the City Hall services, who actively worked to help citizens and bump out water from flooded basements during the whole day.
