People Will Be Brought for Inauguration from Regions

January 18, 2008
Regional activists of the United National Movement have been mobilized for the Inauguration of Mikhail Saakashvili. We learnt that president’s regional governors gave instructions to the governors of Municipalities and Administrative Boards. Reservists and participants of the Presidential Patriot Program were warned to take part in the inauguration.

“Our coordinator was called ordered said that on January 19 everyone must gather in front of the building of the Regional Administrative Board. Cars will be ready for our departure there. We shall be driven to Tbilisi and then back in cars.”

-“Why are you going to Tbilisi? Has anybody explained you the reason?”

- “As far as I know we must gather in front of the Georgian Parliament. Mikhail Saakashvili will deliver a speech there. Then we have to attend scheduled events. To tell the truth I am tired with going back and forth. During the pre-election campaign Saakashvili visited Kvareli and we all were taken there. We drove in old buses with no heating. We froze up. Then we were taken to Sighnaghi. What will happen if I do not go? I do not know. Will I have any problems?” wondered Tamar Gulkhadashvili.

Reservists must attend the Inauguration Ceremony regardless their wish. “I was called and informed that we must gather near the Regional Administration Office in Telavi early in the morning on January 19. We will not have problem of transportation. Reservists have to participate in the ceremonies dedicated to the inauguration of Mikhail Saakashvili. There is an order of putting on those uniforms that were handed over to us approximately two months ago”, noted a reservists of Shakriani Reserve Unit. He asked us not to keep his name anonymous.

The United National Movement’s Telavi Office does not deny the fact that the inauguration will be attended by people from different regions of Georgia. “Everyone can go to Tbilisi and attend inauguration ceremony. Activists and supporters of the United National Movement will be among those people. But I can not tell you anything about transportation of reservists and patriots”, stated Baadur Guliashvili, head of the ruling party’s Telavi branch.

We managed to converse with several drivers of car parks. We learnt from them that at least 10 buses will transport people from every region to Tbilisi. “The chairpersons of the Transportation Departments asked us to transport people from Gurjaani to Tbilisi in the morning of January 20, 2008 free of charge. The chairpersons were ordered from higher instances. They will not pay for transportation; but provide with fuel”, stated Giorgi Markozashvili

Chairpersons of the Administration Boards and Councils did not make any comments regarding the situation.
