Cameraman for “Patruli” Was Detained

July 17, 2007

Aleko Karaulashvili, cameraman for the Kakheti Bureau of the TV Program “Patruli”, was sentenced to two-month-pretrial-detention by the Telavi District Court. Officials from the Internal Ministry’s Kakheti Department said in their conversation with the Human Rights Center that several days ago Karaulashvili overdrove the man lying on the road by his car; the cameraman was drunk. The witnesses said that another car had crashed the dead man before Karaulashvili reached the place and the first driver had already disappeared. Karaulashvili informed the law enforcers about the accident after he had left the scene of accident. Internal Ministry’s Kakheti Department does not make comments on the accident; the investigation is under way.

Aleko Karaulashvili worked for the Telavi TV Company “Tanamgzavri” and for the Kakheti Bureau of the TV Company “Mze” before he joined the ‘Patruli” team.
