Public Defender Demands from the Government to Return Bereaved Property to Businessman

October 25, 2007

Sozar Subari, the Public Defender of Georgia, demands from the Shida Kartli local government to return the property of businessman Jemal Tsiklauri who was bereaved by the government in 2004 during the mass process of becoming a gulag.

The case is about the privately owned corporation, “Liakhvi”, where some financial misappropriations abrogation have been discovered and the Former Attorney of the President in Shida Kartli, Mikheil Kareli, insisted to launch a criminal investigation against director Jemal Tsiklauri.

Today during the briefing, Sozar Subari announced that Mikheil Kareli constantly has been physically threatening Jemal Tsiklauri, who is now detained. He threatened him that his family members will be arrested if he does not transfer his property to the state.

As the Public Defender tells us, some people responsible for this crime have been arrested, but despite this nobody has returned the property to the injured party. The industrial property of Jemal Tsiklauri, “Liakhvi”, is included in the list of objects to be privatized and the government is going to sell “Liakhvi” by auction tomorrow. Sozar Subari warns future possible owners not to buy this agrarian market, because Jemal Tsiklauri certainly will get his property back according to law. Jemal Tsiklauri demands from the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate this case properly.
