Rezonansi Journalists to Appeal Against CEC Decision
May 13 issue of the Rezonansi newspaper relates regarding the ongoing dispute between the journalists of the newspaper and the CEC. The article as well remarks that the DEC of Nadzaladevi district and CEC haven’t granted the application of the journalists. The journalists on their part demand making up of administrative offence protocol regarding the people that had interfered with the correspondents hampering their professional activity and insulted them during the interim elections of April 27.

Problems resulting from video-recording and live broadcasting of Court trials
Netgazeti published Venice Commission Recommendations in relation to covering of Court trials. The article says that as recommended by Venice Commission the article in the Criminal Code concerning video and audio recording during and live broadcasting from during Court trials is obscure and needs to be perfected. Parliament of Georgia approved the coinciding changes to the Law on General Courts 6 March. Recommendations from Venice Commission were publicized 11 March.

Parliament to Discuss Draft Amendments to Georgian Law on Broadcasting
Ani Mirotadze of the parliamentary majority believes that the Parliament, at its earliest, should adopt the law on public broadcaster: “The majority is working on the draft bill and it’s essential to adopt the law ASAP to prevent the channel from similar situations, political interference, financial machinations and ultimately we’ll get the broadcaster as it is supposed to be,” said Ani Mirotadze, former journalist.

Media restrictions in courtrooms, imposed more than five years ago, will be lifted after the legislative amendments, approved by the Parliament on March 6 with its third and final hearing with 101 votes, will go into force.

The legislative amendment on covering court hearings that was due to enter force on March 1st was postponed due to the Parliament’s failure to bring the Law on Common Courts in compliance with the Criminal Procedure Code.
