Human Rights Center announces competition on several vacant positions in the framework of the Project “Water for the Poor”, which is implemented by the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) with financial support of the European Commission. Human Rights Center is partner in the project.

Art-Therapy in the prison #5
Human Rights Center is implementing rehabilitation program in the prison # 5 for female convicts, which aims to promote rehabilitation and resocialization of the prisoners in the penitentiary system of Georgia. The prisoners with disabilities are also involved in the art-therapy project. In accordance to the project, pottery work will assist the disabled prisoners to obtain labor and art skills; and cope with the stress caused by imprisonment. The course will last 4 months and two workshops are held per week
Muslim Prisoners Do Not Get Halal Meat Products
Lawyer-monitors, who monitor the conditions in the prison for female and juvenile prisoners in the frame of the Human Rights Center’s project “Monitoring Conditions of Juvenile and Female Prisoners in Georgian Penitentiary”, stated that one of the problems in the prison is that religious minorities do not get food prepared in accordance to the Halal rule. 
Short-term conjugal meetings in common space is inadmissible for female prisoners
Human Rights Center is implementing the project Monitoring Conditions of Juvenile and Female Prisoners in Georgian Penitentiary. In the frame of the project, the monitors visit prison facilities and interview female and juvenile convicts. The project also provides the prisoners with free legal aid.
Forgotten victims 10 years later – presentation of the report in Gori
International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and its member organization in Georgia Human Rights Center (HRIDC) released special report ten years after the 2008 Russian-Georgian War – “Living on the Edge: Victims’ Quest for Accountability – the ongoing impact of the 2008 Russia-Georgia War”. The report was launched in Tbilisi on February 5 and in Gori on February 7.
Medical Treatment of the Female Prisoners’ Gender-Specific Diseases Is not Effective
Human Rights Center prepared constitutional lawsuit, which argues constitutionality of the Edict # 55 of the Minister of Corrections of Georgia issued on April 10, 2014, which regulates placement of the accused/convicted people in a public hospital, jail hospital and the center for the treatment and rehabilitation of people with tuberculosis.

People actively migrate from Pankisi Gorge
For the past four months, number of pupils has significantly reduced in the public schools of Pankisi Gorge. 60 pupils stopped studying in the villages of Omalo and Dumasturi, 35 pupils abandoned schools in Duisi and 25 in the villages of Jokolo and Birkiani. Pankisi Community Radio WAY disseminated this information. The directors said the reason of this tendency is mass migration of the families from Pankisi Gorge abroad. 
Company Badagoni suspended operation of both wine factories
Investigative unit of the Ministry of Finances started probe in unlawful appropriation of the share by the Company Badagoni. The investigation started based on the application of the representative of the company Gracoro Trading Limited”, which was former share-holder in the Badagoni. The investigative activities were carried out in Tbilisi, the office of the Company as well as in their wine-factory, in Upper Khodasheni village, Akhmeta municipality..

Monument of culture heritage is collapsing
“Our life is under danger and not only our lives. This building creates threats for all passers-by,” resident of Isani Street # 2 Nana Sarishvili said. The residential building in Isani street # 2, Tbilisi is monument of culture heritage. It was constructed in 1885; the building is damaged and is ruining every day: water is leaking from the roof, there is threat that balcony and walls will fall down. The house shall be immediately dismantled and restored to the original design.
Gori municipality mayor is blamed in politically motivated discrimination
Several days after taking up the office, the Gori municipal mayor Konstantine Tavzarashvili announced that employees of the local self-government body will not be fired or recruited based on political views. “We will not hire people according to their political views and everybody will see that.” His statement became urgent two months later, after several public servants appealed the Gori district court against the mayor; they requested determination of the politically motivated discrimination from the side of Tavzarashvili.
Salary fund in the Gori municipality administration and municipality assembly increased with 574 000 GEL
The salaries in the executive body of the Gori self-government body increased according to ranks. First rank public servant will receive 1 700 GEL instead of 1 490 GEL; second rank public servant will receive 1 400 GEL instead of 1 150 GEL. The salaries in the Gori self-governing bodies were increased at 150-200 GEL averagely. 
Appeal Court to Discuss Zviad Ratiani’s Case without Oral Hearing
The Appeal Court is discussing the case of the poet Zviad Ratiani without oral hearing. The trial was scheduled on January 17 but based on the judge’s decision, no more oral hearing will be conducted in the case.
Congo-Captured Georgian Pilot Soso Osorauli Is Alive
Georgian pilot, 42-years old Soso Osorauli, who was captured by illegal armed formation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is alive. According to the verified information, from Central Africa, Soso Osorauli several times talked his family members on the phone in Tbilisi after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia declared him dead.
Gela Mtivlishvili Won Trial against Irakli Shiolashvili in the Supreme Court Too
Supreme Court of Georgia (Judge Ekaterine Gasitashvili) did not satisfy the cassation lawsuit of the MP Irakli Shiolashvili of the Georgian Dream, where he requested annulment of the Tbilisi Appeal Court’s judgment. Last year, the Appeal Court ordered the former governor of Kakheti region Irakli Shiolashvili to publicly deny the information, which degraded personal and professional reputation of the journalist Gela Mtivlishvili.
The problems about getting divorced and alimony
“Regardless the court judgment, the father of the children has not paid the alimony for six months. Initially he threatened me with taking the children away and leaving me in the street. I do not know whom to apply for help,” the victim of the domestic violence told humanrights.ge. The woman, whose name is kept anonymous in respect to her interests, left husband a year ago and is living in the shelter together with her three under-age children.

On January 11, at 19:00, the demonstration was organized in front of the Government’s Chancellery in Tbilisi to declare solidarity with the people in Pankisi Gorge.

Natural disaster in Shida Kartli
On January 9, in a small town of Surami, as a result of intensive rains, the torrent from the mountain fell and was stuck in the channels; finally it rushed into the houses of locals. The ground floors were flooded. 10 families were particularly damaged. The drainage channel is near their houses.
