War Don Don – Film About Already Finished War
On December 10, the Human Rights Center screened a documentary film War Don Don at the Human Rights House Tbilisi. The film by Rebecca Richman Cohen is about the international justice and its dilemmas when working on the cases of concrete people and countries. The Royal Netherlands Embassy provided the Human Rights Center with the film.

Attorney Burdened Conditions of the Accused Victims
The students of the Technical University of Georgia, who were wounded in front of the university a year ago, might be sent to prison for 4 years. At the trial on September 23, the prosecutor Keti Chachava requested equal liability for four accused – 4 years imprisonment and fine of 3 500 GEL. As for the fifth accused Roland Nikolozashvili, who pleaded guilty on the previous trial, the prosecutor requested less grave liability for him – 3 year imprisonment and fine of 2 000 GEL.

World Famous Writers Requested Saakashvili to Protect Their Georgian Colleagues
 The president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili received two protest letters from the world union of writers – International PEN and its American center. The world famous writers, among whom are laureates of the Nobel Reward, were concerned by detention and fining of the three members of the Georgian center of the International PEN – Irakli Kakabadze, Shota Gagarin and Aleksi Chighvinadze. Mario Vargas LIosa, Tony Morison, Rachel Benz and other famous writers request the president of Georgia, chief prosecutor and public defender to protect the rights of Kakabadze, Gagarin and Chighvinadze.

The government is oppressing IDPs
“The Bartholomew night for IDPs” – this is how media evaluated the mass eviction of the IDPs from Tbilisi compact residence places. For an unpopular process like this, government chose the politically most passive month –August. Most of the opposition party leaders take vacations in different resorts at this time; the same can be said about the ordinary citizens – the live force of the protest rallies.

“O Captain! My Captain!” – Poets Detained while Reciting Poems
On August 14th, the publicist Irakli Kakabadze, and the poets Shota Gagarini and Aleksi Chigvinadze, held a protest rally on George Bush St. The public learned about the rally through the social network “facebook.’’ According to the organizers, they were going to protest against the title of the George Bush Street and ask to name it after an American poet, Walt Whitman. The art protest rally “Down with Bush! Long live Whitman!” – ended with the arrest of the poets.

The government chose a politically “dead season” to fight the open market sellers and IDPs.
The heat of August reached its peak in Tbilisi. Nobody wants to come out in the 40-50 degrees, but the police is using the “dead season” to attack the open market sellers and IDPs. The open market sellers and IDPs are holding protest rallies, but few people support them in the heat of the summer, except for Lasha Chkhartishvili from the “Conservative Party” and Aleko Shalamberidze from “People’s Party,” the names that appear whenever the talk about the eviction of the open market sellers occurs.
