Human Rights Center Expresses Its Concerns about the Detention of Koba Otanadze’s Brother and Other Members of his Family

May 21, 2009

The Human Rights Center expresses deep concerns about the fact that Koba Otanadze’s Brother Jimsher Botanizer, his wife Gluon Derided and his 19-year-old son Giorgi Botanize were detained by the Special Forces at daybreak on May 20. Koba Otanadze is wanted for  involvement in the Mukhrovani incident.

We do not know the reason for their detention or the location of the detainees. The Public Defender has demanded to be provided with information about the detainees, but no one in the Ministry of Internal Affairs has responded.

The Human Rights Center calls upon the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure that all of the rights of the detainees are observed as guaranteed by the Georgian constitution and Legislation. It also calls for the Ministry to provide the Public Defender with the requisite information about the location of the detainees; to act with respect for law and not to abuse or exceed its power or to carry out any oppression of Koba Otanadze.
