Tbilisi Civil Court Set 1 ,251,487. 6 GEL Fine for Nino Burjanadze

The Tbilisi Civil Court did not grant an appeal of Nino Burjanadze, a leader of the party The Democratic Movement- United Georgia.

As the Tbilisi Civil Court reported in a    August 18, 2009 decision, the Collegiums of the Administrative Affairs did not grant Nino Burjanadze’s appeal to annul the acts of the Income Service at the Georgian Ministry of Finance in the Tbilisi Region and  other administrative acts as well. According to the Court decision Nino Burjanadze was fined with 1 ,251,487. 6 GEL. According to the Tbilisi Civil Court, during the hearing of the case, it turned out that according to the May 8,2008 order of the Georgian President  Nino Burjanadze bought the country cottage, located in the Tskneti settlement, in theoutskirts of Tbilisi, and paid the symbolic price 1 GEL for it. The government owned country cottage with a plot cost 12,109,997 GEL.

According to the court statement, because Nino Burjanadze bought the house for the symbolic price, according to the Revenue Law, she became obliged to make an annual declaration to the  Georgia Department of Revenue and she was to pay  income tax for the State Budget and other taxes till April 9, 2009 but she failed to do so. Becuse  Burjanadze did not pay taxes which were to be paid according to the revenue orders of April 21, 2009 and of May 11, 2009, the court set a 1 ,251,487. 6  GEL fine for Burjanadze to pay to the Income Service of The Georgian Ministry of Finance.

The court’s decisions says that as a result of investigating the above-mentioned matters and examining the the  documents presented the court recognized the legality of the controversial documents provided against Nino Burjanadze and did not grante her appeal for the reason that it was groundless.

The court decision can be appealed.
