Doctor Dismissed for Medical Certificate on John Nanetashvili

October 15, 2010
Reportedly, Dr. Irakli Pirtskhalaishvili was dismissed from the Gori Military Hospital. According to the reliable sources, the reason was the medical certificate he issued on the director general of the local TV company “Trialeti“.

In the medical registration journal Irakli Pirtskhalaishvili recorded that John Nanetashvili had serious injuries; and added that he was beaten by the patrol police officers.

Irakli Pirtskhalaishvili worked at traumatology department at Gori hospital. The head of the Gori Military Hospital asked Pirtskhalaishvili to explain why he had recorded in medical journal that Nanetashvili was beaten by law enforcement officers.

The TV Company, “Trialeti” thinks Doctor Irakli Pirtskhalaishvili was illegally dismissed by the Hospital Director, because he had implemented his professional duties properly.

We call on the president of Georgia, Georgian non-governmental organizations, embassies, international organizations, public defender, every politician in Georgia to study the issue and respond on it within their competence in order to avoid the precedent of punishing a doctor for implementation of his/her professional activities properly in future.
