Stalin Supporters Protesting the Dismantling of Stalin Monument in Kutaisi

October 19, 2010
The dismantling of Stalin Monument in the victory square of Kutaisi was met with protests from Stalin supporters. The people who used to gather in the so-called Stalin square on holidays, now protest against the dismantling of “great leader’s” monument.

“It seems like the tragic dismantling of “glory memorial” in Kutaisi was not enough for government. These people are trying to destroy our past. Now, it’s turn of Stalin monument and slowly, the history of our country is being tarnished. These people think that Georgian history starts with Rose Revolution. This is not true… It’s too much and the reason of it is that nobody requests response for such facts,” – states Kutaisi resident Tamaz Giorgadze.

According to him and like-minded people, the responsibility should be imposed on the local government for dismantling the monument.

Kutaisi City Hall states that dismantling was not carried out by local government.
