Journalist Roman Kevkhishvili Was Physically Assaulted in Telavi

October 21, 2010
An employee of the JSC “Kakheti Regional Energy Distribution Company” Ira Natsipashvili physically assaulted journalist Roman Kevkhishvili in Telavi. The journalist requested the representative of the Company to explain him why his house was not supplied with electricity though they had paid the bills. The incident happened as a result of this conversation.

“Ira Natsipashvili said she knew nothing and suggested me to call the director of the company. The director did not answer my phone calls. Then they advised me to call other person but he did not reply either. Finally, I categorically demanded Ira Natsipashvili to explain me the reason of the delay in electricity supply in my house after what Natsipashvili attacked me, scratched and injured me. I tried to free myself from her and she fell down,” said Roman Kevkhishvili.

The journalist said that the Kakheti Region Energy Distribution Company has illegally cut off electricity supply in his house. “I paid the bill; I do not steal electricity though they make me pay the bills according to communal meter. Let them come and find out who is stealing the electricity and impose the whole payment on him,” said Kevkhishvili.

Ira Natsipashvili blames Kevkhishvili in her insulting. “It was beyond my competence to reply to his questions. I only collected the payments among subscribers.”

Telavi district police department has not launched investigation on the incident. They say nobody has appealed to their department yet.
