Female Prisoner Has Been on Hunger Strike for 21 Days and Requests Meeting with MPs

November 3, 2010

Inmate of the detention setting # 9 for female prisoners Tamar Talikadze has been on hunger-strike for 21 days already. She protests the verdict of the Supreme Court of Georgia. The convicted requests meeting with MPs – Giorgi Targamadze, Giorgi Akhvlediani, Gia Tsagareishvili, Gia Arsenishvili and with public defender of Georgia.

Tamar Talikadze personally called the Human Rights Center and informed us about her hunger-strike.

The Center got in touch with the MP Gia Tsagareishvili and requested his comments on the fact. He said he had no information about the hunger-strike of Tamar Talikadze. But the main problem is that he is not allowed into the detention settings.
“Unfortunately, I am not allowed into detention settings. The chairman of the parliament has authority to issue corresponding permission on me. I have already petitioned to the Ksani prison but I doubt they will satisfy my request. As for this concrete case, I do not have any information about this woman but if her family members or an attorney contact me, I will learn more about her case and then I will try to assist her,” said Gia Tsagareishvili.

Neither Public Defender’s Office has information about Talikadze’s case. However, they promised to inform the monitoring department about the case and supposedly they will visit the prisoner tomorrow.
