Vasil Sanodze will Receive Medical Treatment in Israel

The Head of General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was taken to Ghudushauri Clinic on May 3 in the morning. He was severely injured in the area of head by the gun. Yesterday night, the wounded official was taken to one of the clinic in Israel from Tbilisi international airport.

According to the official information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Vasil Sanodze accidentally shot himself from the government-issued weapon at his home. According to the unofficial information, he tried to commit suicide. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs categorically denies this fact.

Vasil Sanodze fell in the center of attention in 2006, after the murder of Sandro Girgvliani. The European Court of Human Rights made decision several days ago and convicted state of Georgia in the biased investigation and imposed 50 000 Euros for the benefit of the applicant.

On June 28th of 2006 when Sandro Girgvliani died, the high officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the wife of the Minister Tako Salakaia were celebrating Vasil Sanodze’s birthday. Sandro Girgvliani’s girlfriend attended the celebration as well. The conflict erupted in the bar ended with the death of Sandro Girgvliani. Georgian judiciary interrogated Sanodze and his friends as the witnesses.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs categorically denied the fact of wounding of Vasil Sanodze. Then he stated that Sanodze accidentally shot himself from the government-issued weapon. Vasil Sanodze is in critical condition. He was taken to Ghudushauri clinic on May 3 in the morning and went through the surgery.

For the whole day long on May 3rd it was restricted to enter Ghudushauri clinic. The patients could hardly overcome the barriers created by the guards. The surrounding territory was controlled by the law-enforcement officials for the whole day. The high officials of the law-enforcement were also there – the head of Tbilisi Patrol Police Giorgi Gegechkori and the deputy head of Constitutional Security Department Soso Topuridze and others.

Late at night Vasil Sanodze was taken to Israel from Tbilisi International airport where he will go through the medical treatment.

According to interpressnews, Vasil Sanodze stayed in the restaurant “Puris Sakhli” (bread house) till the midnight. He left the place drunk. Several people attended the gathering, including – French guests. What happened later and how Sanodze got wounded, is unknown.

While talking with interpressnews, Vasil Sanodze’s neighbors noted that they heard noise and shout from Sanodze’s apartment late at night. They did not hear the sound of gun. The hall got filled with people. Law-enforcement officials came as well.

The legislative body does not comment on the issue. Pavle Kublashvili, the head of the Parliamentary Committee of Legal Issues stated that he received information from the media and hopes that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will react upon the occurred.

Vasil Sanodze has a chance of survival, stated the neurosurgeon Grigol Nanava of the Ghudushauri Clinic who operated on Vasil Sanodze.

According to Grigol Nanava, the patient has an open head wound and therefore there is a danger of the subsequent complications. As he noted, the medical examinations concluded that he had a penetrative wound in the right temple of the forehead which passed through the left temple.

“The patient was in severe state with respiratory problems. We put him under the artificial respiration. The urgent surgery was conducted after the examination. No complications were observed during the surgery. After the surgery it was revealed that the patient has a chance of survival,” – stated Grigol Nanava.

According to him, the patient was taken to Israel from Ghudushauri clinic late at night. The family expressed desire to move patient abroad and asked for advice. Ghudushauri clinic representatives advised them to move the patient to Israel. Israel has the biggest experience in terms of treatment of dangerous wounds.
