Priest forbidden to See Prisoner Murman Dumbadze

Telavi temporary detention administration did not allow the personal priest to see the prisoner Murman Dumbadze. The priest had arrived from the city of Batumi.

As Marekh Mgaloblishvili, the lawyer of Murman Dumbadze and the head of Telavi Office of Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) stated to the Human Rights Center the priest was promised to be allowed to see the prisoner and he waited at the prison for the whole day long. However, he was refused to be let in the evening.

According to him, despite numerous requests, the administration of temporary detention still has not ensured the consultation of doctor-ophtalmologist.

“Dumbadze has problems with eyesight but the ophtalmogolist has not had access to him,” – stated Marekh Mgaloblishvili.

One of the opposition activists, the former member of Republican Party Murman Dumbadze was detained in Tbilisi on May 26th during the protest disruption. Dumbadze was severely beten during the detention and suffered with numerous injuries all over his body. Tbilisi City Court passed 30-day sentence against him. The detainee was deprived of food for two days in Telavi detention cell and did not receive medical help on time.
