Employees of Dedoplistskaro Ethnographical Museum Dry Damped Exhibits under the Sun

July 21, 2011

The unique exhibits kept in Dedoplistskaro Ethnographical Museum are in danger. The water leaks in the preservation room and the exhibits get damped. The museum employees dry the damped exhibits under the sun.

“We tried to save the damped exhibits by our own effort. We took them out today to dry on the sun. We keep very important exhibits in the museum and it is inadmissible to let them be destroyed. The local government knows about our problem, however the problem is not solved,” – stated the director of Dedoplistkaro Ethnographical Museum Liana Baidoshvili to Kakheti Information Center.

According to the statement of Tamaz Kirvalidze, the director of Culture and Sports Center of Dedoplistskaro Local Government, he is aware of the museum situation, however he does not know whether the rehabilitation works will be conducted or not. “The building is very old. The specialists will study it first and then I will address the relevant bodies for help,” – noted Tamaz Kirvalidze.

Dedoplistkaro Ethnographical Museum has been operating since 1975. The museum preserves the clay and bronze material discovered as a result of archeological works (since the VI-I centuries till the late feudal age), numismatology, ethnographical material and the painting works of XX century painters.

It should be noted that more than 25% of the local budget is spent on the salaries, bonuses and administrative expenses of the heads and employees of Dedoplistkaro and City Hall. But nobody shows interest to the issue of the museum yet.
