Trade Union to Start Permanent Demonstrations Tomorrow

September 21, 2011

Tomorrow, Trade Union of Georgia will start permanent demonstrations concerning the metallurgists’ case.

Tamaz Dolaberidze from the TU said the first demonstration will be held near the Tbilisi office of EurazianStyle Ltd who is owner of the Kutaisi based “Hercules” factory.

Permanent demonstrations will be held in front of various governmental institutions almost every day. Additionally, the TU suggests the MPs to dedicate special committee sessions on the case of Kutaisi Factory “Hercules”.

Dolaberidze said the demonstrations will finish on October 1. On that day, large-scale demonstration will be devoted to One Day of Worthy Work.

Besides, the TU will establish solidarity foundation to assist 29 workers dismissed from the Hercules factory. The funds will be allocated to the foundation to assist the dismissed workers.

Dolaberidze reported that 1000 GEL will be assigned to the families of three detained metallurgists on Friday; Kutaisi Appeal Court sent them to prison for 10 days.

On September 13, about 100 workers of the Hercules factory of the EurasianStyle Ltd went on strike to request improvement of their working conditions and re-employment of their 17 dismissed colleagues. Four of them started hunger-strike.

On September 15 police officers dispersed the demonstration and detained about 40 strikers. Later they were released. According to the TU, the detainees wrote notifications in the police station and promised they would not participate in the protest rallies in future and return to their working places.

Several days later, police arrested three workers of the factory. Kutaisi City Court imposed 10-day imprisonment on them.
