Detained Ilia Suliashvili Was Brought to His Father’s Funeral for Several Minutes

01.08.2012

Ilia Suliashvili, member of the Coalition Georgian Dream, who serves administrative sentence in Signagi temporary detention setting, was allowed to attend his father’s funeral for several minutes. Head of Georgian Dream’s Gurjaani office Kako Begashvili said Ilia Suliashvili was delivered to the funeral with shackles by large number of security officers.

“He was brought in shackles ten minutes before burial by large number of security officers. He was taken to the cemetery but then he returned to the detention setting,” Kako Begashvili said.

Yesterday, Ilia Suliashvili started hunger-strike with the request to attend his father’s funeral.

Ilia Suliashvili’s father – Tamaz Suliashvili, 64, died as a result of nervous palsy on July 26. The neighbors said he was extremely worried about his son’s arbitrary detention; he had a stroke and died. His funeral took place on July 31.
