Georgian Dream Requests Investigation against Zurab Otiashvili

August 30, 2012

Coalition Georgian Dream requests to start investigation against Zurab Otiashvilis who is majoritarian candidate of the National Movement in Dusheti district. Sozar Subari, a leader of the coalition, filed an application with the request to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia.

According to Subari, on August 25 on Vazahaoba fest Otiashvili gave 500 lari to a citizen as a present, and information about this fact was spread by media and witnesses also confirm this fact.

"Otiashvili indirectly confessed it when saying he had done good thing. Otiashvili could help anyone but he has no right to be MP candidate and participate in the elections; if he wants to participate in the elections he should obey the law. We request the Prosecutor’s Office to inform us whether they have started investigation on this fact”, said Subari. According to him law should be equal for everyone.

“I can mention similar example - Mikheil Meskhi, Mikheil Amashukeli and Chkhenkeli incorrectly explained to citizens who to fill in booklets and it was considered to be a voter’s bribery”, Subari explained.

Georgian Dream petitioned to the Interagency Task Force regarding the same issue.

On August 27, information  Centre of Mtskheta-Mtianeti spread information that Zurab Otiashvili majoritarian deputy from the National Movement in Dusheti gave 500 lari to one of the voters on Vazhaoba Holiday in Chargali. As Otiashvili said he helped blind singer from his private money. Lawyer from Transparency International Georgia states that this fact is bribery and is punishable under criminal code.
