Human Rights Center will present the findings of the two last periodic reports of the Media Monitoring

September 28, 2012

Today, on September 28, at 3:00 pm Human Rights Center organized press-conference in the Hotel Courtyard Marriott and presented results of the two periodic reports of the Media Monitoring of the Parliamentary Elections.

Besides journalists, Center kindly invited interested organizations to the presentation. Representatives of the GPB attended the presentations and expressed their opinions regarding the report.

Media Monitoring of Parliamentary Elections is implemented by financial support of International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) under the framework of four-year project Increased Trust in Electoral Process (ITEP) financed by USAID (US Agency for International Development). In the frame of the Project, HRC monitors monitor hidden political, social and political advertisements aired by following TV-Companies: Public Broadcaster, Imedi, Rustavi 2, Kavkasia, Maestro and Ninth Channel.

The purpose of the media-monitoring is to study trends of coverage of social and political advertisements during pre-election period, to expose hidden political advertisement and work out recommendations for the improvement of election environment.

This time, Human Rights Center published last periodic reports which present findings of the Media-monitoring of the Parliamentary Elections in the period of August 27-September 9.

During this period of monitoring, Public Broadcaster covered qualified election subjects in balanced manner though we cannot say the same about TV-Companies Rustavi 2, Imedi, Kavkasia and Maestro where political advertisements of the United National Movement occupy more time than ads of other political parties. As for TV-9, it allocated more time to the advertisements of the Georgian Dream. At the same time, National Movement used video-clips against Georgian Dream prepared by the NGO Georgia Not for Sale, where political party – Election Bloc Bidzina Ivanishvili- Georgian Dream is presented in a negative tone. As a result, we receive aggressive PR campaign against the qualified opposition election subject – Bidzina Ivanishvili- Georgian Dream in all four TV-Channels.
