Gardabani District Deputy Governor Found Hung In His House

December 13, 2012
On December 12, Gardabani district deputy governor Manuchar Jokhadze was found hung in his house. According to preliminary information, he had committed suicide but relatives cannot say any motive of suicide and claim he had been in high mood throughout the day. Investigation was launched into the accident.

Levan Tarkhnishvili of the United National Movement hopes the investigation will estimate real reasons of Manuchar Jokhadze’s death.

In his interview with Interpresnews, Tarkhnishvili underlined that Jokhadze had been summoned to the prosecutor’s office several days before. Tarkhnishvili added that there is tough situation in the country in this direction.

“We learned some details from his wife and close people. He was summoned to the prosecutor’s office a week before the accident. Nowadays, a lot of people are questioned; officials from local government and self-governments are under oppression. Another issue is that Manuchar Jokhadze had definite plan for today – his relative had died in Racha and he was going to go there together with his family. He borrowed some money from a person to cover transportation expenses and got the money from the bank; he bought fuel and was busy with preparation for his departure to Racha. Afterwards, something happened within one hour that dramatically changed his plans. We do hope, investigation will estimate the truth,” Levan Tarkhnishvili told IPN.

As for motives of Jokhadze’s summoning to the prosecutor’s office, Tarkhnishvili said the late deputy governor was questioned about the sale of pipes and other equipment.

Besides Tarkhnishvili, other members of the UNM Irma Nadirashvili, Givi Targamadze, Giorgi Tevdoradze and Zurab Melikishvili also arrived in Gardabani.
