Employees of Maknatuna Factory Protest Illegal Imprisonments

December 14, 2012
“Nothing has changed for us after the new government came in office. Apparently, we are living in the country of terror and arbitrary detentions,” employees of the factory Maknatuna held assembly in front of the Kutaisi parliament building on December 12 and 13.

According to their information, on December 11, Financial Police officers entered their factory and arrested two distributors together. Besides that, they withdrew server which controlled distribution of the products. Protesters claim the motive of their arrest was registration of 22 lari less procurement in the receipt in one shop as the shop-assistant had asked them. Protesters said everything was planned in advance, on purpose.

“We doubt everything was preliminarily planned fact. We do not trust investigation conducted by offenders. Financial police officers, who occupied high positions during previous government and extorted money from our and other enterprises during pre-election period, must not interrogate detainees. We request justice,” said one of the founders of the Maknatuna Gia Gumberidze.

Detainees were not charged yet. Other employees of the Maknatuna are also questioned at the Kutaisi office of the Financial Police. The enterprise, where more than 80 people worked, does not work now.
