Investigation into Facts from Russian-Georgian Armed Conflict to Be Conducted

Effective investigation will be launched into incidents occurred during Russian-Georgian armed conflict of 2008. The statement of the Ministry of Justice informs about it.

The Ministry reports that in accordance to the international obligations of Georgia, the Ministry of Justice continues active cooperation with the International Criminal Court. 

In the frame of cooperation, the chief prosecutor’s office of Georgia will conduct effective investigation into the incidents occurred during 2008 Russian-Georgian Conflict. 

 “According to current situation, prosecutor’s office of the ICC is carrying out preliminary investigation of the facts. Afterwards, ICC prosecutor should decide to start investigation or not. Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia already sent last information about ongoing investigation in Georgia to the ICC early in autumn. This information was reflected in the report published by the ICC Prosecutor’s Office on November 27, 2012. Ministry of Justice of Georgia in cooperation with the Georgian chief prosecutor’s office will continue thorough investigation into the incidents occurred during the Russian-Georgian armed conflict in August, 2008 and intends to widen and intensify the investigation team for that purpose,” the statement of the Ministry of Justice reads.
