Walk Free Foundation against Slavery – 16 227 People Are In Slavery in Georgia

Georgia ranked the 50th place in the 2013 Global Slavery Index, says a Walk Free Foundation report. According to the Index of the Australian Fund, 16,227 people are in slavery in Georgia, while there number is 29,8 million worldwide.

The authors selected several criteria to work out the index – human trafficking, forced marriage of underage children, forced work and sale/exploitation of children.

The top five places were taken in the Index by Mauritania, Haiti, Pakistan, India and Nepal. 

The highest number of slaves were reported in India – 13.956, 010 and the lowest – 22 – in Iceland, which is followed by Ireland, Great Britain, New Zealand and Switzerland.
