Cleaners of Railway Station Waiting for Their Salaries since August

December 2, 2013

Maka Malakmadze, Adjara

Building of Batumi Railway Station has not been cleaned for several days already. The cleaners have not received their salaries for several months already too and protest it. They do not even have copies of labor contracts with the employer company.

Natalia and Lia Goguas work for the Ltd Karizma, which is sub-contractor of the Property Management Company – a subordinated company to the Georgian Railway. Goguas have been working for the Ltd for more than one year. They know their responsibilities – to clean the building of the railway station though the labor contract prescribing their duties was stored with the employer Ia Medolishvili.

“We signed only one copy of the contract. Nobody gave the document to us. It did not include the amount of the salary either; when we asked they said we would get 90 lari net,” Natalia Gogua said.

Four employees of the Ltd Karizma work in the Batumi Railway Station. They have not received salaries for several months already. “We have not received salaries since August. Before the salaries were paid with delays. We call Ia Medolishvili but she does not reply. We work for 90 lari that is not subsistence minimum either and now we have problem even to get it. We stopped cleaning the building several days ago in protest,” Lia Gogua said.

Human Rights Center contacted the head of Karizma Ia Medolishvili who said they will pay salaries to employees in near future. “I have already resolved the problem. I was also sorry for their problems but we had some obstacles.”

Medolishvili commented about not giving the copies of labor contracts to employees too and said they had not asked for the copies.
