Nino Devidze, Kakheti

Media sources have been reporting for several days already that Kvareli municipal board might suspend authority of the district governor based on the request of Kakheti regional governor Irakli Shiolashvili. Reportedly, board members are summoned to security service and ordered to resign Davit Kevkhishvili from the position.

Kvareli district governor Davit Kevkhishvili claims municipal board chairman and several board members receive instructions from unidentified people instead regional administration. “I cannot say who concretely communicates with them but before we had no problem. Two or three months are left before elections but they wish to fire me. Of course, they could not do it with their own initiative. However, I hope everything will be cleared up in future.”

Board chairman Zaza Lomidze denied spread information in his interview with humanrights.ge. “We have never talked about this issue with the regional governor and the spread information is absolute false. As for Davit Kevkhishvili’s resignation, the municipal board will discuss his last year report at the bureau session, evaluate his activities and make final decision then.”

Zaza Lomidze did not confirm information about oppression on the board members from the security service. “Board members discussed the spread information and I do not see any criminal signs in it.”

Board member Valeri Varadashvili explained the initiative of the board chairman with the controversial opinions between different groups. “Zaza Lomidze’s position was absolutely unexpected for me. I also heard about summoning people to the security service but I was not called there personally. Bureau session was not held yet and cannot say anything else. I think this initiative has no legal grounds.”

Davit Kevkhishvili is still on the position. It is not known when session will be held, where suspension of district governor’s authority will be discussed.
