Parliament Confirms Two Supreme Court Judge Candidates

October 21, 2014

Civil Georgia

The Parliament approved on October 17 two candidates for Supreme Court judges, nominated by President Giorgi Margvelasvhili.

Nino Bakakuri and Zurab Dzlierishvili were approved with 93 and 99 votes, respectively, for a ten-year term.

Their nominations were voted down by the Georgian Dream ruling majority in early August, but President Margvelashvili re-nominated the same candidates last month.

The President welcomed approval of these candidates by the Parliament and said in a statement on October 17 that “unbiased, independent and highly qualified professionals” have joined the judiciary.
