Campaign “Justice Demands” starts meetings

April 20, 2016

Present crisis in  the judiciary system, unhealthy processes and faulty legislation undermine the idea of fair trial and violations constitutional rights of the court applicants to have his/her case judged by impartial, independent and competent judge. Faulty legislation is fostering current crisis, unhealthy influence and control of judges by certain groups of people. Therefore, immediate changes in the legislation are needed. Coalition for Independent and Transparent Judiciary launched the campaign “The Justice demands” in order to support liberation of the court from internal and external influences and carry out real reforms.

The main demand of the campaign is to stop employment of judges in non-constitutional, unfair and non-transparent way and to immediately establish transparent, fair and clear system for employing the judges. The Campaign also requests abolishment of the mechanism which gives possibility to start disciplinary procedures against critical judges, to fasten judicial reform and to commence electronic system of random-distribution of cases between the judges without groundless delay.

The Coalition, which launched the Campaign “the Justice Demands,” has been working on judicial reforms since 2011. Therefore, the Coalition has explicit vision on the main directions of reforms to be implemented in the process of transformation of judicial system. Those reforms will serve the idea of creation fair, independent and impartial Court.

Besides, in order to promptly address the existing challenges and systemic problems in present judiciary system, the Coalition works on concrete reform proposals and expresses the interest to meet and discuss issues with the Prime-Minister, the President and the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia.

In addition, for the fulfillment of real reforms, the Campaign expresses readiness to start discussions with those political groups, who have the issue on their agenda. For that purpose,, the Coalition will organize meetings with the representatives of different political parties.
