Public Defender's Statement on Release of Video Footage Showing Torture and Degrading Treatment

August 19, 2016
Video footage showing torture and degrading treatment was released on the Internet on August 15, 2016. Persons, shown in the video, can be identified and therefore, the release of the video recordings is degrading and morally painful for them. Dignity is an absolutely protected legal right of a human, observance of which is the responsibility of the state.

Public access to the mentioned video footage leads to legal and moral harassment of certain individuals. Despite the extreme legal damage suffered by the individuals, the video footage is still available in the Internet space.

The Public Defender demands that the relevant state authorities not only start an investigation into the release and retention of the video materials, but also undertake specific legal measures to prevent access to these recordings on the Internet and other public space.
