Representative of Human Rights Center at 16th Assembly of State Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court

Within the frameworks of the 16th Assembly of State Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, held in the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, the co-director of Human Rights Center and Chair of Georgian Coalition for International Criminal Court, Nino Tsagareishvili spoke about the problems and challenges related to the investigation of the war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed in Georgia during the August 2008 War and called on the member states for the effective cooperation in support of the investigation.

Nino Tsagareishvili also highlighted grave socio-economic conditions that the victims of 2008 August war are experiencing in Georgia and called on the Trust Fund of Victims to apply assistance mandate for the victims, as well as the member states to support the Trust Fund through making voluntary contributions in order to enable it to implement necessary programs in various situation countries, including in Georgia.

The representative of Human Rights Center also spoke about the significance and necessity of informing victims timely and comprehensively by the Court as the most neutral source as well as necessity of providing relevant support by the member states in this regard.

Nino Tsagareishvili also called on the member states not to decrease the budget proposed by the Court for the year of 2018 in order to enable the Court to fulfill its duties comprehensively, including the effective functioning of the local offices in various situation countries, including in Georgia.
