Georgian Peacekeepers Going to Iraq

Tbilisi.03.01.05.Media News. On March 1st, 558 soldiers of the 1st Brigade, the so-called 13th Shavnabada Batallion led by Captain Giorgi Shengelaia left for Iraq.

The seeing off ceremony took place in Vaziani and was attended by both Levan Nikoleishvili, Head of the General Headquarters and Patricia Moler, the Interim Ambassador of the United States of America to Georgia.

These Georgian peacekeepers in Baghdad will participate in different peaceful operations and will ensure that the UN mission runs smoothly. They have undergone a special one-month training in Georgia conducted by American and English instructors.

At present there are about 300 military servants fulfilling peacekeeping missions in Iraq.
