Ex-judges Find That Appointing Khipiani as a Head of the Disciplinary Council is Against the Law
Tbilisi, 10.02.2006, “Media News” – Judges dismissed from the High Court of Georgia think that appointing Kakhaber Khipiani as the head of the Disciplinary Council is a violation of the law. Ex-judges held a press-conference in the Association of American Lawyers. According to ex-judge Merab Turava, they asked for information about the education and working experience of Kakhaber Khipiani. “It was shown that Khipiani graduated from Djambakur Bakradze Econimic and Law Institute in 2001. On the 12th of August 2004, he was appointed as a member of the disciplinary Council and later on as a head of the committee. Thus, he has only three-years work experience in the relevant field, which is a violation of the legislation”, says Merab Turava.
Former judges are going to write a petition in the City Court of Tbilisi asking that the administrative act, approved on the 12th of August 2004, be overruled. This was the act that appointed Khipiani first as a member and later as the head of the Disciplinary Council.
Judges will submit their petition in the City Court of Tbilisi on Monday, 13th of February.
