The People of the Village of Kldu have not had Electricity for 15 years

It is almost 15 years since the village of Kldu, governed by the Kekhijvari council, in the Kareli region, has not had electricity and water. Some of the village inhabitants met the Chairman of the Kekhijvari village council and asked him to solve the problems concerning electricity, water and roads. The village council promised them help.

According to the village councilior, a short time ago the Georgian government showed interest in the village’s problems. They promised them to funds but these never materialized.

Most of the youth has abandoned the village which was scantly populated anyway. The village is mainly inhabited by old and middle-aged people. Kldu is isolated from the surrounding area, especially in winter.

“Righters” from Gori oppose the Power Company. Mamuka Phaniashvili, leader of the Gori “New Righters” organization accuses the Gori Power Company of robbing the population. According to him, the population is made to pay inflated electricity fees.

Mamuka Phaniashvili says that the bills, issued by Power Company, have increased by 4-5 GEL per family. The “Righters” explain that the Regional Administration does not pay for street lighting and the cost therefore falls upon the population.

Giorgi Balakhashvili, the head of the Power Company press service, says that the population has nothing to worry about, as increasing electricity taxes have caused increases in the electricity bills.
