NGOs Demand to Sack Tbilisi Mayor

January 22, 2008
NGO-coalition, “For Our Rights” and youth movement “Youth Wave” request to hold snap elections of the local government and the resignation of Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava.

Davit Liluashvili, coalition member said in his conversation with the Medianews, that representatives of twenty NGOs constitute the coalition and they consider that it is inadmissible to have a mayor who blatantly breaches human rights. “In this country independent and unbiased local government should be elected in this country that is basic for democracy”, said Liluashvili.

The members of the NGO coalition consider that their claims must be added to three main demands of the united opposition: independence of judiciary system, freedom of mass media and improvement of election legislation.

The NGOs will start peaceful protest demonstrations in the near future .Their demands will be announced tomorrow at the briefing in front of  the City Hall building that will be shot by media soruces.
