Beef meet infected 10 people in the village Kardenakhi of Gurjaani Municipality. According to the locals, they bought butchered beef in their district few days ago, because of which they got sick. The patients have enlarged lymph glands and rash on their skin. National Food Agency and Health Care service are examining the causes of the disease. Locals suggest that the disease might be the Siberian Plague, or Akhmeta Virus.

Humanrights.ge talked with a doctor-epidemiologist of public health care, Marina Kapanadze. As the doctor says, they do not have yet the information about the causes of rash. Based on examined patients, she does not exclude several versions. But for the right diagnosis they are waiting for lab results.

“There are several versions, it might be Anthrax, or Akhmeta Virus, poisoning is also not excluded. No one knows anything for sure. The patients are being examined in AIDS Center of Tbilisi,”- said the epidemiologist.

According to the representative of the governor, Aleksandre Turiashvili the lab results will be known in 3 days. According to him, diseased people touched the raw meat, boiled meat was not contagious. In the case of confirming the disease, responsible services will start disinfection works in the village.
