Moscow was dissatisfied and confused by the word “occupation” used by the US State Secretary Hillary Clinton in her statement about the Georgian-Russian war in August of 2008. Russian analyists loudly announce that the real reason of the current situation is the lost information war with Georgia; analyst of political and military institute Anatoli Chigankov said “Although Russia started the military operation in 2008 only to force peace in Georgia, Tbilisi won the information war,” wrote the newspaper “Resonance” in the article “We Should Admit the Lost Information War with Georgia,” – They started speaking about neutralizing Georgian propaganda and creation of federal media-channel in Georgian language.”

Dedoplistskaro district governor Nikoloz Shanshiashvili seized video-camera from the representative of the Human Rights Center and journalist Gela Mtivlishvili and damaged it. Press Association of Georgia and publishers of magazines and newspapers protest the new tax code. The code of magazines-newspapers is removed from the list of entities which are free from VAT from the new tax code. The article which discharged the printed media from VAT for advertisements is also removed from the Code. Chairman of the Press Association Lasha Tughushi said the newspapers will not cope with similar tax oppression and they will stop working.

On May 7, the debates in the program “Barrier” of the TV-Company “Kavkasia” about the book “Secret Idiotism” (insulting name of the Last Supper) turned into the quarrel. Journalist Aleko Elisashvili reported that human rights defender Beka Mindiashvili and cinema-scientist Teo Khatiashvili left the studio in protest; the representatives of the Union of Orthodox Parents and Public Orthodox Movement met them in the yard who initially insulted and then physically assaulted them. Other participants of the program also went out in the yard at the noise and interfered in the quarrel.
Assaults on Journalists Are Not Investigated In Kakheti

There is no official statistics, how many facts of the interference in the professional activities of journalists have not been investigated since 2004. According to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, they do not investigate any of these cases. In Kakheti, more than ten incidents happened when journalists were attacked; only one of them was investigated. However, the offender in this case was promoted instead punishment.
