Water problems in Liakhvi Gorge

Population of Didi (Big) and Patara (Small) Laiakhvi gorge face the problem of water supply. Villages of the conflict zones now started worrying on how to water the lands that the only source of income. Hectares of plant gardens are fading. Population fear that if drought continues one more month, they might stay without harvest.
Khelvachauri Municipality Seized Plots of More Than One Thousand Families

Khelvachauri Municipality concluded that plots distributed to people between the years 1999 to 2004 were illegal. Initially, the New Rights Party, the National Forum Party and the Georgian Young Lawyers Association appealed to court against the Municipality resolution on nullifying the distribution of plots. Roin Malakmadze, the chairman of the Khelvachauri Municipality, said that all the acts were cancelled that had been adopted illegally. Murad Malakmadze, a resident of the village of Sharabidzeebi, protests the Chairman’s actions. “The plot was granted to me under the reform. I have built a house, started a farm on it, and now they say it is illegal. Do I have any fault in it?!”
Residents of Salibauri Were Cut Off Water Supply

The village of Salibauri in the Khelvachauri District, where more than 180 families live in, has not been supplied with water in the summer for the last few years. Two days ago, the villagers held warning demonstration in the center of the village. They said that their problem was caused by the selfishness of the people from the village of Akhalsheni who are using the water for irrigation. Representatives of the Republic Party think that this problem is caused by disability of the Local Government. District Governor, Badri Shavlidze said that the problem is eradicated formally and cannot help his anger when the people listen only to the opposition.
Who Has Destroyed the Church Under Construction?

Society got furious and protested the deconstruction of the St. Gabriel’s Church which was under construction on the Feria Mountain in Batumi. As it became clear, before the deconstruction, the Chairman of the Adjara Government, Levan Varshalomidze, in the name of the President, was trying to persuade the Father Dimitri, Bishop of the Batumi-Kobuleti Eparchy to stop the construction and give the territory to the authority. Simultaneous to it, iron cross was removed in Kobuleti. The parish and representatives of the church consider the facts as a fight against the Orthodoxy. Particularly sever was the reaction of the parliamentary and non-parliamentary opposition. The re-construction of the destroyed churches started on the same day. The government gave in and stated that it was unpleasant misunderstanding.
Mtkvari Threatens the Village

The Mtkvari River flows close to the village of Skra. Generally, there is a good view in the area, but when it rises then the village is threatened. The Mtkvari has altered its bed and now is destroying the river bank. The population has been demanding to repair the dam in vain.

But you are mistaken, the repairer is Mkhitar Kerofian and the boys are his sons. The couple, Lala and Mkhitar Kerofian, has nine children. The monthly income of the family is too little.
Kutaisi Authority Fights against Street Traders

“Kutaisi local Authority cannot stand street traders. It is the only explanation of their attitude towards us. We are standing in the rain, wind, heat and try to sell a little green to earn our living and keep our families. But they do their best to cut our last source to survive. We do not know how long we will endure the situation,” said street traders in the area of Kutaisi Central Market.
The Environmental Ministry Does Not Pay Off Debts

Seventy-one-year-old Suliko Khurtsidze worked at the Kutaisi Hydro Meteorological Observatory for 29 years. He acted as a director for the Observatory for the last ten years. In the middle of December in 2005, employees of the observatory were told to sign resignation letters because tests were going to be held. In fact, no examinations were held at all.

Houses and cattle sheds have moved two meters, plots have flooded, a landslide and the people who lived in danger of it are now a reality in the district. The population expects the local government to help them, and the local authority waits for the central government. The government shares responsibility, and the money for compensation is on its way. Homeless Man Dreams to Enroll the Program for Impoverished People

A man whose total property are two chairs, two iron beds and one old TV, could not be enrolled the program for socially excluded people. He does not have his own house and rents a flat. He has petitioned to the government for a shelter and for including him in the program. However, the correspondence did not have any results. Homeless man applied to the Human Rights Center for help.
Students Remained Without Diplomas

Graduate students of the Zugdidi Branch of the Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University (TSU); have not received their diplomas yet. Hundreds of students have been waiting for their diplomas for a year. Many of them have faced various problems when they wanted to go on with their studying, or to take internship courses or to get employed. Employers demand diplomas from young people.
Bloodshed between Two Clans of Caucasian Avars in Kakheti

Fourteen people were injured during an incident between Caucasian Avars in Kvareli. Several women are among them. Two men with grave health conditions were placed in the Gurjaani District Hospital. The population blames the family of MP Marika Verulashvili for protecting Shamil Gazimagamedov leader of armed formation. People threaten with vengeance and bloody demand unless criminals are punished severely.

Atskuri Population Urges the Government for Help

Gori Population Is Not Supplied with Gas

In Gori tax on gas has reached 51, 3 tetri. In parallel to the increased price, gas supply was cut off for subscribers in the town. Representatives of the GoriGazi said that the reason for the problem is unpaid bills and increased tax. Tengiz Aleksidze, deputy director of the GoriGazi, said that the debt of the subscribers amounted to 800 000 lari.

Students Having Graduated From the Gori State University, Have Not Received Diplomas Yet

Ana Isakadze, one of the University’s graduate students, wants to go on with her studies in Germany. However, she cannot take diploma at the Gori University and will have problems regarding her future studies abroad. In Germany they do not believe Isakadze that she had really graduated from the University in Georgia.
We Will Have Experienced Directors Late This Year

At the end of the school year the Georgian schools will have new, tested and selected directors. Nearly 7 000 contestants took part in the tests; however finally their number reduced. Only 2 300 directors should be elected throughout Georgia. Those who received highest points will choose schools according to their own wishes. As for others with lower points, they will be introduced to various schools by the Ministry of Education and Science.
