On 20 November 2015 the Public Defender held a roundtable discussion on the theme: implementation of the Constitutional Court's decision of 15 September 2015 in the case of “Giorgi Ugulava v. Parliament of Georgia” by the common courts. The event was attended by judges of common courts, members of the High Council of Justice and representatives of international and non-governmental organizations.
Gurjaani district population requests rehabilitation of the sport complex

Sport complex located in Vazisubani village, Gurjaani municipality has been in poor conditions for years. The two-storied building, which was used as a relax facility of sportsmen, is demolished. There is anti-sanitary in the yard of the sport complex.

The neighbors asked relative of the family Gia Mirianashvili to take care of the brothers; however, the relative misappropriated the property of the disabled persons.

13 Employees Dismissed from the Union of Gurjaani Libraries and Museums

Non-commercial legal entities Union of Museums and Union of Libraries united in Gurjaani municipality. A new non-commercial legal entity Union of Gurjaani Libraries and Museums was created whose director is neurologist Maya Beroshvili. The new director started reduction of personnel and dismissed 13 employees. Among them was director of the Union of Libraries Mzia Glurjidze.

Former Head of Gori Culture Center Appealed to Public Defender

According to Valiauri, Shida Kartli Regional Governor Zurab Rusishvili oppressed the city mayor, who then signed the dismissal order on Valiauri.

Press Release - the Observatory Geneva-Paris, October 16, 2015 – The appeal trial in the case against Ms. Leyla and Mr. Arif Yunus opened before the Baku Grave Crimes Court on October 12. On August 13, both had been convicted to 8.5 and 7 years jail sentences in a trial that grossly disregarded international standards of fair trial and due process. As the appeal trial is unfolding, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders (OMCT-FIDH programme) calls for these outrageous sentences to be nullified.

Former Attorney of Mejvriskhevi Village Was Sentenced to 6 Year-Imprisonment

On October 15, at 11:00 am hearing of the case against former attorney of Mejvriskhevi village was scheduled at the Gori district court but Judge Shalva Kakauridze started the process one and half hour later. Former attorney Tariel Gurgenidze was sentenced to 6-year-imprisonment for accepting bribe.
Discrepancies in the Process of Appointing Judges Without Competition in August 2015

As the public is already well informed Georgian Legislation enshrines the possibility of appointing current judges at lower, higher or the same instance courts during their tenure period without competition. High Council of Justice (HCoJ) is the body having the discretionary power to transfer judges. According to the information received from the HCoJ in 2011 27 judges were appointed without competition throughout Georgia, in 2012-68 judges, in 2013-26 judges. Unfortunately we did not receive information on the number of judges appointed without competition during 2014.

On 13 October 2015 the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, addressed the Court’s Judges and requested authorization to initiate an investigation into the alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in relation to the August 2008 armed conflict in Georgia.
