Board of Sighnaghi District Election Commission Faked Documents

June 6, 2008

The Human Rights Center demands to start criminal persecution against the board of the Sighnaghi DEC. The center discovered that on May 21 Mamuka Kuprashvili had observed elections at polling station # 12 in the village of Bodbiskhevi on behalf of the Human Rights Centre. However, the organization did not have such observer at all polling stations in the region.

Tengiz Bezhashvili, representative of the Republic Party, reported to the Human Rights Center, that Mamuka Kuprashvili used observer card issued by the Sighnaghi DEC in the polling station. Bezhashvili also stated that Kuprashvili was actually the Chairperson of the local election commission and leading the polling process.

It is noteworthy that Gia Kavtaradze, Khatuna Khostiashvili, Dali Mchedlishvili, Davit Kusrashvili and others who acted as observers in the polling stations in Sighnaghi DEC with false observation cards of  the Young Lawyers Association, Center for the Protection of Constitutional Rights and Association ‘Vegini”. They even signed the record books of the polling stations.

The Human Rights Center considers the board of Sighnaghi DEC has flawed the documents and abused their legal authority. The Centre demands that a criminal case and full investigation over the violation be opened.
