Manager of Telavi District Nursery School N 5 Is Accused in Violation of Children’s Rights

November 20, 2009

Kakheti office of the Human Rights Centre accused Ekaterine Adamashvili, the manager of nursery school N 5, in violation of children’s rights.

According to the Human Rights Centre, Ekaterine Adamashvili selects children from wealthy families to accept in the nursery school; she also pays attention how obedient the children are and how much they eat.

Representatives of the Kakheti office of the Human Rights Centre state that if children do not satisfy the requirements of the manager, Ekaterine Adamashvili threatens their parents with dismissing their children from the nursery school: “The manager and several teachers insult children in the presence of their friends that is absolutely unacceptable. Besides that, the head of the kindergarten has not signed agreements with parents. The parents have to pay 20 GEL according to the verbal agreement. However, the manager demands more money from the parents”, said the representatives of the Human Rights Centre.

The manager of the nursery school denies the accusations. According to her, several children do not behave properly, they speak in nasty language; the school is not a place for the improvement of disobedient children. As for the payment, Adamashvili clarifies, that 20 GEL is the fee at the kindergarten and parents, who can afford it, can pay more.
