More Protest Rallies Are Organized by Discontent People in Kakheti Region Recently

December 3, 2009

Protest rally was organized in the village of Tokhliauri in Sagarejo district. Villagers were protesting extra bills imposed by JSC “Kakheti Energy Distribution” on subscribers.

According to demonstrators, every family in the village has old individual meters, which are working properly, but the energy company demands subscribers to pay larger bills than they have spent.

“No one knows, whether the index of so called communal meters is different from individual meters or not. Boxes with individual meters are locked and they charge us as much as they wish. They rob us! We applied to the regional service office for help but they called us plotters. District administration told us it was beyond their competence and we were compelled to hold protest rally. People hardly earn money for living and we have no money to enrich Lithuanians” say residents of the village Tokhliauri.

According to the information of Sagarejo district service office, JSC “Kakheti Energy Distribution” acts in accordance to the regulations of Energy Regulation National Commission of Georgia and they collect bills according to communal meters.

Reportedly, from January 2009 owner and ruling company of the “Kakheti Energy Distribution” is Lithuanian company “Akhema Group”.

Residents of Tokhliauri village urge for help; otherwise they intend to block Kakheti-Tbilisi central highway.

It must be noted that yesterday, residents of the village Ruispiri in Telavi district also protested large bills imposed on them according to communal meters.
